Who We Are

The Olympian Society was founded in 1961 by newly arrived Greek migrants from the Ilia region of Greece. Their goal was to create a club that would allow them to develop bonds with other Ilians and Greeks; to discuss the problems of living in xenitia; new language, new barriers, and loss of family and friends. This new club grew into a society that allowed Greek migrants to socialise in a safe environment and maintain their Greek traditions, Greek language and Greek culture.

The Olympian Society has continued to provide opportunities for the Greek community to dine, dance, and travel, all within the spirit of friendship. The Society is very proud of its contribution to the life of Greeks in Melbourne and is welcoming of all Greeks and philhellenes.
